When Alan Lam and Grace Li founded Luscious Dumpling in San Gabriel in 2001, Grace brought her roots from Shenyang, a northern Chinese city famous for its dumplings. They chose the name “Luscious” from the original Chinese store name Run Alan Lam and Grace Li founded Luscious Dumpling in San Gabriel in 2001, bringing dumpling traditions from Grace’s hometown of Shenyang. They named it “Luscious” after the original Chinese store name because “moist” just sounded odd. In 2012 their daughter Michelle and her husband Ker left careers in nursing and fashion to open the Monrovia location and keep the family recipes alive. Every morning the team makes the dumplings by hand from scratch with fresh ingredients. In 2018 they opened Mason’s Dumpling Shop in Highland Park, named after their son, and are now expanding the same handmade tradition to Aurora, Colorado.
